Culturally Conscious Place Making Webinar

On 21 March 2025, Lia Ghilardi delivered a keynote address to 200+ place-making and cultural planning professionals from across Sweden during a webinar hosted by Region Skåne. The event formed part of the Development Skåne – For Development Actors series.

In her presentation, Lia introduced her distinctive ethnographic methodology for uncovering a place’s cultural DNA, demonstrating how this approach can unlock local potential for attraction, foster innovative and regenerative forms of cultural tourism, and provide genuinely inclusive economic opportunities.

She also shared insights from recent international projects, highlighting how cross-disciplinary collaboration—bringing together architects, economists, artists, planners, and community leaders—can deliver effective, context-sensitive solutions to the complex challenges facing places of all scales today.
