Throughout 2019 Lia Ghilardi will continue to work with the city of Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg) to develop cultural tourism opportunities together with a creative industries strategy. The city of Esch will be European Capital of Culture in 2022, but its image and reputation as a destination for cultural events and activities is currently relatively underdeveloped. Based on the mapping conducted by Lia between 2017 and 2018 (see Esch’s Cultural Strategy), she will initiate a process of stakeholders’ engagement — tourism to economic development, urban planning, creative clusters, education, retail and community development. Together they will draft a road map for how this former industrial city in Luxembourg could capitalise on its cultural strengths and creative capacity in order to become more attractive, cohesive and prosperous.
